5/31/2023 0 Comments New world reddit![]() No pay to win in this game which is great. ![]() The cash shop is ok - not needed for anything other than cosmetics, but the cosmetic designs aren't really that great at times. It's much smoother and intuitive and easy to get used to after playing other MMOs. Combat is pretty good - much better now than it was in the beginning when it was clunky. There really aren't any raids except during special events which seem few and far between (limited to holidays it seems). Gathering and crafting keeps me going solo when my husband can't play, so there is no limit to that and your wife will love it if she's patient with RNG upon mastering her crafting. It's a good pve game for certain but upon completing endgame, it becomes routine and grindy even if you're doing expedition mutations (though they do get the blood pumping lol Try to find an active pve company for those or else you'll have to try to pug together which can be difficult). My husband and I have played since the launch (though we took some time off and then started new characters on FSS, which means we have 2 lvl 60 characters each). There's no subscription or anything so it's also easy to drop and return to later Worth it imo, even if you lost interest at endgame. TLDR at worst, it's $40 (each tbf) for many lovely hours of exploring and gathering together. They're adding transmog, allowing you to dye shop skins, as well as gear sets sometime this year, maybe summer iirc. All I can say is that many of their contracted artists have a definite aesthetic taste and definitely maybe like BDSM and metal a bit too much. The cash shop is 100% cosmetic, 0% P2W, and most people think the skins are between meh and horrid. The weapon combos are much more forgiving in casual, open-world PvE vs mutations or pvp so that's a plus if that's your focus. This is entirely due to the action combat I resent pve in most MMOs but very much enjoy it in NW. PvE combat in general is pretty great imo, especially for an MMO. Two dungeons a week are Mutated and have various extra effects and stuff and there are 10 difficulties you can progress through. They do have several dungeons with their equivalent of WoW's Mythics. There's no raiding yet, though their first pass at a raid is coming this year. The con is the endgame crafting is heavily rng to get the best stuff, so it's far beyond my level of patience or dedication. It's easy to have fun exploring and gathering and crafting - huge pros are the sound design, the world itself, the fact that almost everything around you is gatherable. Lots of questions and some have subjective answers, but as someone who's played since alpha and mostly does pvp BUT likes PvE and crafting way way more in NW than most MMOs.
